DOH!!!

For the last two weeks, I have been at the Family Law Courthouse every day off I've had. Every Tuesday and Thursday. I get up early in the morning and head down to my second job: getting a divorce.

I had my husband file the Summons because I knew he would have to pay a big fee for filing the first paper in a case, as I am a legal secretary. I thought I was being slick. I found out today that I was soooooo wrong.

It has been almost a year since that first paper was filed. We are about to "celebrate" our third year! Oh, my God.

I waited and waited for the court to send me a Default, since I planned on doing nothing to get a Default Judgment. That's not how it goes when your spouse doesn't file a Request to Enter Default. I have bugged him and bugged him for months to get this taken care of, but since he has moved to FLORIDA, he can't do it himself. He had help in the first place, and told me that he had been calling "the girl" who did the Summons for him, but she had a death in the family, then she never called him back, then she said she did it, but I never got a copy of the Request. And you ALWAYS get a copy of the Request to Enter Default if you live in the same place as you were served, as do I. SO!

I called him and told him I was going down to the courthouse to find out what's going on. You have to wait in line to tell them why you are there, then if they have to pull your file, which they always do to tell you the next step, then you get a number and wait until called. I have been getting down there when they opened, but today I decided to sleep in, and then go. BIG MISTAKE. I am going to be working full time for two weeks to cover our supervisor at work, so I wanted to sleep in. What an idiot I was for thinking I could get away with that!

I got there about 11 and got out of there at 2:45. That isn't the worst of it! The Response I was supposed to file cost me $320.00!!! And I am so poor already! Man!

So, the point is that I could've bit the bullet and paid to have the Summons filed, and that would've enabled ME to be the one to file the Request to Enter Default six months after the Summons was served, and I wouldn't be going through this! I would be divorced by now! I was going to pay anyway, and I would've been DONE! DOH!!!!

Yikes, you and govn't agencies don't mix. Isn't it funny how easy it is to get married and how hard it is to get divorced. It seems that if two people are willing to get a quick, easy divorce they should only have to sign a piece of paper. But, nooo..the govn't needs to get lots of money from you first. I want to be the one to invent the Hind Sight is 20/20 glasses. I would be rich! Hope things go smoothly and quickly from here on out!

I don't know what to say...
Allison, all this will pass soon and be but a memory. We learn from our daily strife and sharing this may help someone sometime in their life.
